This Week’s Harvest, 8/31

September 1, 2011

lettuce, bell peppers, potatoes, parsley, eggs, cucumber, tomatoes

I never thought I would be so excited to see a red bell pepper in all my life.  I plan on broiling it, skinning it, and whirring it into soup along with some tomatoes and roasted garlic.  As for the green ones, well, I’ll try to hide them in something.  Maybe a shopska salad with the ginormous cucumber and any remaining tomatoes.

You can’t tell from the photo, but those are some lovely red potatoes.  I’d like to try roasting them with lavender, and sprinkling them with parsley when they come out of the oven.

I just realized that I forgot to mention what I was doing with last week’s pears.  Those that didn’t get eaten out of hand were baked into this coffee cake for a Sunday picnic.  These may become something eggier, like a clafoutis.

Mmmm…potatoes with lavender! You’re getting “Frencher” by the moment! 😉 Hooray for red bell peppers–they are usually about $4/each here. Nice that you scored one!!

Jenni – As a lifelong bell pepper-hater, I had no idea what they cost. 🙂 I just know that red ones are a lot less yucky than the green ones we usually get.
